Local Clubs

The Chilliwack Model Railway Club is a group of model railroaders based in the Fraser Valley. The club operates an N scale modular layout depicting the railway between Chilliwack and Vancouver and displays the layout at model railway shows and community events throughout the region. The club welcomes model railroaders with a variety of interests, scales and experience levels.

The Dewdney-Alouette Railway Society (DARS) maintains an extensive HO scale historical layout at the Maple Ridge Museum. Centred on Port Haney in 1926, the layout recreates the Canadian Pacific Railway along the Fraser River through Hammond, Port Haney and Ruskin. Members meet regularly to work on and operate the layout and host a public open house on the last Sunday of each month.

The Sunshine Coast Model Railroad Club is a group of model railway enthusiasts based on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast. The club has a long history within the 7th Division and has maintained model railway layouts in Gibsons and Sechelt. Members have also participated in model railway shows, operating sessions and other railway hobby activities throughout the region.

The Top Link Model Railway Association brings together modellers interested in the railways of Britain. Based in the Greater Vancouver area, with members also in Washington State, the group models a variety of British railway periods and scales and displays its OO scale layout at model railway shows and events throughout the region.

The Vancouver TraiNgang is an N scale model railway club based in Greater Vancouver. Members build T-Trak modules that can be combined into larger layouts for model railway shows and public events throughout the region. The club welcomes both visitors and new members and provides opportunities to share modelling skills, operate trains and promote N scale model railroading.

The Model Railway Club at the Cranbrook History Centre maintains an extensive HO scale layout depicting the Canadian Pacific Railway through the East Kootenay. The railway recreates the route from Bull River through Cranbrook to Kootenay Landing, with scenes including the Cranbrook yard and roundhouse, Moyie Lake and local industries. Members meet regularly to maintain and improve the layout and share their model railway skills with the community. The History Centre is also home to an impressive 80-foot O gauge model railway featuring five lines on four levels through a dramatic British Columbia mountain landscape.

The Golden City Railway Modellers are a group of HO scale enthusiasts from the West Kootenay. Their modular layout recreates the railways, mines and buildings of Rossland from the early 1900s through the 1950s, with an emphasis on historical accuracy. The layout is located at Waneta Plaza in Trail, and the club welcomes new members.

The Kettle Valley Model Railway Club is based aboard the historic S.S. Sicamous in Penticton. The club maintains a large HO scale layout recreating the Kettle Valley Railway and its connections with Okanagan Lake during the railway’s heyday. Members meet regularly to work on and operate the layout, participate in club activities and share their interest in the KVR and model railroading. New members are welcome.

The Revelstoke Model Railway Club maintains an HO scale layout at the Revelstoke Railway Museum. The layout depicts the Canadian Pacific Railway from Revelstoke through Rogers Pass to the Connaught Tunnel, with an emphasis on prototype operations and local railway history. Members meet regularly to work on and operate the layout, which can be viewed whenever the museum is open. New members are welcome.

The Salmon Arm Model Railroad Association is an HO scale model railway group with longstanding ties to the NMRA and 7th Division. The club’s award-winning portable sectional layout, the Shuswap and Monashee Railway, has been displayed at model railway shows and NMRA conventions throughout the region. SAMRA has also hosted several 7th Division Interior Meets and the 2016 Pacific Northwest Region Convention in Salmon Arm.

The CFB Esquimalt Model Railway Club maintains large modular layouts in both HO and N scale. Members meet regularly at Work Point Barracks to build, improve and operate the layouts, which are also displayed at model railway shows and community events throughout Vancouver Island. Membership is open to serving and retired military personnel and government employees, with limited membership available to others.

The Comox Valley Railway Modellers are a group of model railway enthusiasts representing a wide range of scales and interests. Rather than maintaining a permanent club layout, members meet regularly to share modelling projects, techniques and ideas through presentations, demonstrations and informal gatherings. The group also participates in model railway displays and other hobby activities in the Comox Valley.

The North Island Model Railroaders bring together model railway enthusiasts from Campbell River and northern Vancouver Island. Members share their modelling skills and interests through modular railway displays and public events, including a longstanding partnership with the Museum at Campbell River. The group participates in model railway shows on Vancouver Island and has helped introduce generations of visitors to the model railroading hobby.

North Island Model Railroaders continues to exhibit at public events, including the annual train show at the Museum at Campbell River. At the 2024 Vancouver Train Expo, the club’s layout received the Modeller’s Choice Award.
